In accordance with the Agreement between the Organization of School Administrators and supervisors and the Detroit Public School Community District the following vacancy is announced:
Position Summary:
The Accountant-Treasury will work with the General Accounting and Budget teams and other stakeholders. The position supports our efforts to ensure that the annual budget is financially responsible and to manage cash flows, aligned with district priorities and organized around the needs of schools and DPSCD students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, preferably accounting or finance, from an accredited college or university required
Must present evidence of a minimum of four (4) years of full-time work experience in a computerized accounting environment. Familiarity with computer hardware and software accounting applications preferred.
Must present evidence of developing and implementing multi-million-dollar budgets and audit preparation responsibilities.
Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
An exemplary attendance record is required.
Under the direction of the Senior Director, the accountant will have the following key responsibilities:
Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual cash flow schedules.
Process online banking transactions daily.
Provide assistance to schools and central office divisions with banking needs, as required.
Assist in the preparation of periodic and annual financial reports.
Schedule and coordinate armored car service for schools and departments.
Prepare interim and annual financial reports to be submitted to the District and various governmental agencies.
Prepare claims and invoices for payments incurred by the assigned school.
Maintain communications and rapport with personnel in other departments and divisions.
Maintain district-prescribed records of all financial transactions.
Assist in completing special studies and analyses.
Process payments in settlement of debts incurred by the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
Train and supervise school bookkeepers.
Utilize computer-driven practices for recording and maintaining financial records.
Maintain district-prescribed ledgers.
Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Must be able to provide evidence of preparing and monitoring budgets, audits, financial statement and analyzing accounts and processing online transactions with banks.
Experience preparing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual cash flows and knowledge of cash flow preparation for borrowing purposes, including multiple years, required.
Familiar with computer hardware and software accounting applications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is a must including advanced knowledge and application of Microsoft Excel.
