What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Teacher position at Downtown Preschool?

Seeking dedicated and qualified Preschools Teacher to join our early childhood education team in our GSRP and Infant Rooms. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of Creative Curriculum, a commitment to high-quality instruction, and the ability to support children’s developmental growth in a safe, nurturing environment. All applicants must be able to start on August 1st, 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities aligned with Creative Curriculum
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Observe, assess, and document children’s developmental progress
  • Complete required data entry and participate in all necessary training related to assessment systems and program compliance
  • Communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Ensure adherence to licensing regulations, safety standards, and organizational policies
  • Maintain the organization, structure and cleanliness of the classroom environment

Qualifications

GSRP Teacher must have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching; the transcript must show a major in child development or early childhood education.

or

  • A valid Michigan teaching certifcate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood-General and Special Education endorsement, Birth-K or PK-3 endorsement.

Infant Teacher must have the following:

  • Must be at least 19 years old,
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED,
  • Complete 3 semester hours, 4.5 CEUs, or 45 hours of approved coursework in infant/toddler development within 6 months of hire
  • Transcripts should be made available upon request if applicable
