What is a CNC Machinist II?
The CNC Machinist III proves out new programs, sets up and operates computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts, loads parts in the machine, and cycles machine. They independently perform a wide range of complex duties, working within established procedures associated with specific job function and have fully gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.
In this role, you will:
· Read production orders, gauges, interpret blueprints and material specifications
· Read and edit G or M code, test accuracy of settings and programs and detect malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools
· Translate the requirements of detailed part drawings into measurements for production
· Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to shop foreman or person designated
· Regularly performs milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, sawing, and sanding tasks
· Adjust the machine offsets to control finish dimensions as well as make sure the machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product
· Inspect with the appropriate gauging technique and keep defective material report current
· Inspect the finished product to ensure it is defect-free and ready for the next step in production
· Perform traceability marking and documentation
· Keep appropriate documents current and accurate
· Operate the overhead crane and forklift
· Maintain work area and equipment in a safe, orderly, clean environment
· Follow safety procedures
· Perform other duties as assigned
Required and Preferred Experience:
· Requires 7 years of related experience
· Strong basic math skills including decimals and fractions
· Extensive knowledge of machine maintenance and operation
· Prior experience as a CNC Machinist or using production machinery
· Ability to read, write and communicate well
· Interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures
· Limited computer knowledge
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
· Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
· Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling objects that are 50 pounds or less (SEF Energy employees shall not manually lift an item weighing more than 50 lbs., they shall utilize mechanical assistance devices. If mechanical assistance devices are not available, utilize a team lift.)
· Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and moving mechanical parts
· Noise level in the shop may be loud
Education:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
