Job Summary: The Estimator reports to the Senior Estimator and performs a key role in our production process by accurately assessing project costs, timelines, and material needs for custom trade show displays. This position involves collaborating with design, production, and sales teams to ensure projects are bid competitively while maintaining quality standards. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction techniques such as custom cabinetry, plastics and metalwork, and will handle some purchasing responsibilities to support efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for trade show display projects, including labor and materials, based on client specifications and design drawings.
- Analyze blueprints, sketches, and written project requirements to determine accurate quantities of materials and production time.
- Utilize Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Excel for cost modeling, Teams for collaboration, and Outlook for communication) to organize data, track estimates, and share updates with internal teams.
- Collaborate with production staff to incorporate knowledge of trade show display construction techniques, such as woodworking, laminating, painting, assembly, and finishing, into estimates.
- Review and refine estimates based on feedback from sales and project managers to ensure alignment with client budgets and expectations.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, purchase orders, and supplier contracts for easy reference.
- Communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and clients to provide updates and support smooth project transitions from estimation to production.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings through alternative materials or processes without compromising quality.
- Occasional purchasing of materials (e.g., wood, plastics, laminates) and specialty items required for displays, negotiating with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and timely delivery.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven experience in estimation, preferably in custom fabrication, trade show displays, or a related field like custom cabinetry or woodworking shops.
- Strong knowledge of trade show display construction techniques, including woodworking, laminating, and assembly methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite, with advanced skills in Excel for data analysis and cost calculations.
- Experience in purchasing and supply chain management, including vendor negotiation.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in construction management, business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years in a similar role within manufacturing or construction.
- Drug-screen and physical exam required prior to hiring.
