What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician/Optician position at Downers Grove Eye Center?
Complete a detailed patient history, including: past systemic and ocular medical history, systemic and ocular medical history of family, medication history, and the patient’s chief complaint. Must maintain and meet all Meaningful Use requirements.
Neutralize eye glasses by either manual or automated lensometry.
Check patients uncorrected and/or uncorrected visual acuity for distance and near.
Administer topical medications for testing/treatment as directed by the doctor.
Perform subjective refractions either manually or with the automatic phoropter.
Perform accurately and proficiently: auto refraction, Ishihara color testing, stereo, Amsler grid, confrontational visual fields, extra ocular motility, pupil evaluation and angle assessment prior to dilation. Also, any further testing requested by the doctor.
Ability to insert and remove both soft and gas permeable contact lenses, and instruct the insertion, removal and care of such lenses.
Responsible for cleaning and stocking rooms.
Responsible for maintenance of equipment or informing the one responsible for ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly.
Above knowledge is preferred, but we are willing to train.
Attend required staff and educational meetings as requested.
Work with others within your department and other departments with professional respect to provide a friendly and efficient experience for the patients.

Optician Experience a Bonus!
Assisting patients with frame selection. Understanding vision insurance and being able to write-up orders and submit orders. Accurately measuring patients for glasses. Understanding lens types, proper materials to use and add-ons is a plus!
