Pre-Owned Automotive Manager

Key Responsibilities: A successful Pre-Owned Automotive Manager drives profitability through strategic management of the used vehicle department. Responsibilities include:

• Inventory Management: Sourcing, appraising, purchasing (at auction or via trade-ins), pricing, and managing the used vehicle inventory to maintain an optimal mix and rapid turn.
• Sales Leadership: Leading, motivating, and training the sales team to meet and exceed sales volume and gross profit targets.
• Market Analysis: Utilizing data and inventory management tools (e.g., vAuto, Dealertrack) to analyze market trends and make informed decisions.
• Operations & Compliance: Overseeing vehicle reconditioning, managing the departmental budget, and ensuring all processes comply with federal and state regulations.
• Customer Satisfaction: Interacting with customers and sales staff to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and resolve complex issues.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Experience: A minimum of 2-5 years of proven experience in automotive sales or management, with specific experience in used car operations, is typically required.
• Leadership: Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills are vital for managing a team and interacting with various stakeholders.
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Dealership Management Systems (DMS) like CDK or Reynolds & Reynolds, CRM software, and inventory management platforms is essential.
• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial statements, sales data, and market trends to drive business results.
• Education: A high school diploma or GED is required, while a bachelor's degree in business or a related field is often preferred.
• Certifications: Industry certifications, such as the Certified Automotive Remarketer (CAR) or NADA Dealer Academy Certificate, can be a significant advantage.
