Dovetail is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Scientist, Protein Sciences, to join our growing and dynamic team. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Scientist will serve as an integral member of the R&D team, executing workflows that span protein science and antibody discovery. Key responsibilities include:
· Discovery workflow: lead and execute hands-on antibody discovery tasks, including binding domain selection, ELISA-based screening, and DNA sequence analysis
· Protein characterization: develop and perform biophysical characterization of antibodies using fit-for-purpose approaches for high-throughput discovery needs
· Flexible project execution: provide timely support, adapting to project needs in a dynamic environment, supporting both discovery screening and protein characterization as needed
· Collaboration & communication: design and execute experiments and effectively communicate results to a cross-functional team of biologists and protein engineers
· Data management: Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of experimental results, including sequence-to-function datasets
· Project coordination: Work with internal teams and external CROs to coordinate activities and ensure successful execution of deliverables
Knowledge and Skills:
The ideal candidate will be a flexible and quick learner with a strong foundation in protein sciences and molecular biology.
· Broad understanding of antibody discovery process, especially as pertains to binding domain generation and selection
· Familiarity with discovery screening assays (such as ELISA and other high-throughput assays)
· Working knowledge of DNA sequence analysis (Benchling, Geneious, etc.) and basic molecular biology techniques
· Expertise in various protein analytical methods including HPLC (SEC, HIC, IEX), CE, DSF, MALS, Western blots, etc.
· Experience with BLI (Gator or Octet) for affinity measurement, kinetic analysis, and epitope binning
· Solid understanding of protein developability assays, including approaches to characterize and optimize candidates for formulation and manufacturing
· Familiarity with protein purification techniques using chromatography (SEC, IEX) for lab scale production
· Strong critical thinking and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with colleagues from diverse disciplines
Qualifications:
· Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field with 3 years of industry experience, or master’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field with 5 years of industry experience or bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field with 10 years of industry experience
· Excellent organizational and communication skills with attention to detail
