We are seeking a highly strategic and tech-forward Controller to oversee the financial operations of a complex, expanding multi-generational family office. Managing a current accounting staff of four, this role oversees the financial integrity of a diverse portfolio including trusts, foundations, lifestyle assets (such as residences and aircraft), public and private investment vehicles, and select aspects of real estate accounting operation.
Technology & Systems Innovation
This role requires a modern financial leader who leverages technology to drive efficiency:
- Systems Management: Act as the technological lead utilizing the Archway Group platform for accounting and investment data aggregation.
- Advanced Analytics: Establish robust, dynamic reporting systems.
- Automation & API: Take an active role in maintaining and expanding current APIs to fully automate repetitive tasks.
Tax, Estate & Investment Strategy
- Actively engage in high-level financial management, estate planning, and tax planning for the family, businesses, and foundations.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Deloitte tax group to ensure timely filings, implement sophisticated tax strategies, and manage federal or state audits.
- Oversee the financial aspects of private equity investments, including subscription documents, capital calls, and distributions.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of various trusts, multi-tier business structures, and service agreements.
Operational & Team Oversight
- Direct the daily execution of the accounting team, overseeing treasury functions, family banking, and the corporate credit card reporting system.
- Drive the financial close process, preparing consolidated cash plans, annual operating budgets, and actual-to-forecast reconciliations.
- Maintain foundation books regarding cash and contribution needs, and manage annual foundation audits.
- Process construction draw requests for private family homes under construction and coordinate with related lenders as needed.
Qualifications
- A meaningful level of experience at a top national accounting firm is required.
- Demonstrated high-level ability to interact seamlessly with a national CPA firm staff regarding complex tax matters.
- Proven ability to manage dynamic situations while maintaining positive business relationships with family members, external vendors, and banking professionals.
- Advanced Analytics: Fluency in Power BI and advanced Excel proficiency are required to establish robust, dynamic reporting systems.
- AI Integration: The ability to compose code and streamline workflows using AI platforms (such as Claude) is considered a plus.
