Position Summary

This position is for an electromechanical engineering intern for summer internship project. This summer intern project focuses on the end-to-end design and prototyping of a hardware-based fault injection system for Electric Vehicle (EV) DC Fast Chargers. The scope includes defining a strategic framework to stress-test critical components—including the charge controller and high-power contactors—and developing a custom, enclosure to house the control interface. By simulating subsystem failures and extreme thermal conditions, this system provides a controlled, repeatable environment for the engineering team to validate 'fail-safe' software responses and build a robust diagnostic database of system error codes

Position Responsibilities

• Gain knowledge of EV charger components and functions
• Identify points in the system to fault
• Design, develop, and document (using 3D CAD software) hardware design for the fault injection system
• Fabricate and assemble prototype of the system
• Bench test to verify the system works before integrating it with the charger
• Integrate the system with the EV charger
• Perform fault tests and collect data on the outcomes
• Document to a fault-to-error mapping database
  
  

Qualification Requirements

• Hands-on basics: Experience using hand and power tools, and prototyping electrical-mechanical assemblies.
• Mechanical Design: Strong spatial intuition for component layout within enclosures; proficiency in SolidWorks is preferred
• Analytical Testing: Ability to develop ""what-if"" test cases and logically identify critical system failure points
• Technical Documentation: Skilled in maintaining precise test logs that correlate specific fault actions with their corresponding system outputs.
