What are the responsibilities and job description for the MAINTENANCE WORKER position at Douglas Unified School District?
SUMMARY: Performs routine and emergency repairs to district equipment and facilities. General areas of craftsmanship include, but are not limited to, carpentry and construction, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and/or vehicle maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance related activities; assists with assuring facilities are maintained in safe operation conditions.
- Picks up, moves, transports, delivers, assembles and arrange various furniture, materials and equipment
- Reports to department supervisor any repairs needed or equipment replacement required
- Constructs and repairs wood structures, maintains walls and patches holes as needed, applies paint to buildings and facilities as needed
- Assist journeyman level craft persons with maintenance repairs, equipment installation and remodeling projects related to various phases of carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and/or painting
- Repairs wood and chain link fences
- Repairs and replaces playground equipment
- Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and ballasts
- Paints walls and benches
- Unclogs, repairs and replaces restricted plumbing fixtures
- Operates and maintains a variety of tools and equipment including saws, drills and a variety of hand and power tools; cleans and cares for tools and equipment used on the job
- May drive a vehicle in the course of completing assignments
- Performs a variety of jobs that constitute physical labor
- Assists with custodial, warehouse and mailroom activities when assigned, as needed
- Properly uses maintenance equipment and chemicals; reads labels on chemicals and M.S.D.S. (Material Safety Data Sheets) to ensure safe use, storage and handling of all maintenance related chemicals
- Demonstrates responsibility for the safety of others, and in the use of materials and equipment; follows safe work procedures; ensures proper safety precautions, regulations, and industrial hygiene practices are observed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of carpentry/construction, electrical, plumbing and/or building maintenance
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow directions ad adhere to timelines
- Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, test meters and other related equipment
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength
- Knowledge of modern methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and custodial work
- Ability to recognize potential safety problems and to take steps to prevent hazards
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies
- Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of three years of training and experience in carpentry/construction, electrical, plumbing or building maintenance
- Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
