Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage nursing staff across various departments, ensuring high standards of patient care and adherence to policies.
- Coordinate daily clinical operations, including patient assessments, care planning, and medical documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Ensure compliance with state healthcare regulations, HIPAA privacy standards, and long-term care regulations.
- Oversee medication administration, IV infusion procedures, catheter care, tube feeding, and other specialized nursing interventions.
- Conduct physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, diagnostic evaluations, and assessments for diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, behavioral health, and individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives such as infection control programs, utilization review, discharge planning, and case management to optimize patient outcomes.
- Facilitate team management through effective communication of nursing policies, training on ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and ensuring proper documentation in medical records.
- Participate in managing care facility teams by supervising nurse management activities and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards like NCQA or JCAHO.
Skills
- Extensive experience working with electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems) and medical documentation practices.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to acute care settings such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers.
- Proven leadership in supervising nursing teams within hospital medicine, critical & intensive care units (ICU), emergency medicine, or long-term care environments.
- Skilled in performing patient assessments including vital signs collection, physical examinations, specimen collection/processing, venipuncture, phlebotomy, and sterile techniques.
- Expertise in managing complex cases involving ventilator management, cardiac catheterization procedures, spinal taps, or gastrostomy tube feeding.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance and long-term care regulations for assisted living or nursing home settings.
- Ability to utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth efficiently for medical records management.
- Strong managerial communication skills for supervising staff performance while fostering a positive team culture focused on patient-centered care.
- Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding for procedures like suturing or diagnostic imaging documentation.
- Experience working with diverse populations including children (neonatal ventilators), infants (infant care), or individuals with dementia or memory care needs.
