Position Summary
Douglas County Juvenile Court is seeking a qualified attorney or law firm to serve as the Family Treatment Court (FTC) Parent Attorney. This contracted position provides legal representation to parents participating in the Family Treatment Court Program and in their associated dependency proceedings. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Court, the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS), accountability court team members, and other stakeholders while advocating for clients throughout the life of their cases.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent parents in Family Treatment Court and related dependency proceedings.
- Attend all Family Treatment Court staffing meetings, court hearings, and required team trainings.
- Meet with clients prior to hearings and maintain regular communication throughout the case.
- Review case files, evaluations, reports, and case plans in preparation for court proceedings.
- Prepare for and appear at all scheduled hearings.
- Advise clients regarding compliance with court orders, treatment requirements, and case plans.
- Draft proposed court orders when directed by the Court.
- Submit monthly reports of active assigned cases.
- Maintain professional communication with the Court, Clerk’s Office, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and continuing legal education related to juvenile law and accountability courts.
- Provide high-quality legal representation consistent with Georgia law, the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct, and nationally recognized standards for juvenile representation.
- Effective August 1, 2026, attendance at all in-person court hearings is mandatory unless otherwise excused or directed by the Court
Minimum Qualifications
- Active member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
- Professional liability (malpractice) insurance.
- Experience in juvenile law, dependency proceedings, family law, or related litigation preferred.
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage a significant caseload while meeting court deadlines.
- Commitment to serving families involved in the child welfare system.
- This is an exclusive contract position. The selected attorney or law firm must provide legal services exclusively to Douglas County Juvenile Court under this contract and may not maintain or accept conflicting court-appointed contracts with other jurisdictions during the term of the agreement.
Compensation
- Annual contract compensation of $83,000, paid biweekly.
- Independent contractor (1099) position.
