JOB DESCRIPTION AND INFORMATION:
Primary Objectives:
Performs intermediate work transporting the public, senior citizens, and residents with disabilities to and from various locations within the County; performing special assistance for individuals with disabilities; performing related work as apparent or assigned.
This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening in accordance with NDOT and FTA Part 40 regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Inspects vehicle to ensure that it is in a clean and in operable condition; completes inspection paperwork/checklist; reports the need for service or repair; ensures that vehicles are scheduled for routine maintenance as required.
2. Uses County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties, following a pre-established schedule or on an on-call basis.
3. Stops vehicle at various locations to pick-up and let off passengers; assists passengers with disabilities in embarking and disembarking and may load and unload luggage, packages and other items as required.
4. Answers questions and provides information to passengers as required; may provide information to medical and social service providers regarding client status.
5. Maintains driver log; if required, lists client name, address and other information for each trip.
6. May transport meals to the home bound, assuring that the meal is safely delivered; may pick up empty trays from prior delivery; loads trays into carrying devices and onto the van for home bound delivery; checks temperature of hot meals, reports findings on a daily basis to the designated record keeper; reports unusual circumstances (no one home - no response at the door) to Supervisor.
7. Washes and cleans the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles; fuels the vehicle.
8. May drive a handicapped access vehicle to transport wheelchair and other elderly and handicapped clients; assists individuals requiring wheelchair assistance in the entry and exit from the vehicle.
9. Assists individuals with physical needs in the entry and exit of the vehicle.
10. Participates in in-service training to update skills and learn techniques for dealing with various clients.
11. Perform all duties in accordance to Federal Transportation Administration as it relates to public transit.
12. Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
13. Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Position requires a High School diploma or GED and 1 year of experience in transportation of passengers in a bus or van; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Passenger Endorsement within six (6) months of date of hire
CPR/First Aid/AED certification within six (6) months of date of hire
Effects and Consequences of Prohibited Drug Use certification within three (3) months of date of employment.

- Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration; frequently requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens (may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment); occasionally requires exposure to wet/humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to the risk of electrical shock.

Douglas County provides benefits to full-time employees. Benefits are prorated for part-time employees working 20–29 hours per week. Part-time employees working 19 hours or less, as well as on-call employees, are not eligible for benefits.
No Nevada State income tax.
Retirement – Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada (PERS)
Douglas County contributes 36.75% of an eligible regular member and 50% of an eligible Police and Fire member's salary for retirement.
Deferred Compensation Plans – Employees have the option to participate in a deferred compensation program through VOYA, which is funded by the employee.
- Vacation: Accrued at the rate of 4.6154 hours per pay period, or 120 hours per year (increase with years of service).
- Sick Leave : Earned at the rate of 3.6923 hours per pay period, or 96 hours per year.

Compensation
Douglas County uses a Pay for Performance compensation system, where employees receive annual performance evaluations and may be eligible for merit-based salary increases. Qualified employees can earn up to a 3% merit increase on their anniversary date, and may also receive an annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) during the first pay period of each fiscal year, based on the Consumer Price Index, up to a maximum of 5%. In addition, eligible employees who demonstrate exceptional, above-and-beyond performance may receive further compensation through the County’s Recognition of Excellence Program.
