Incumbent works under the direction of the Director of Public Properties or designee, performing a variety of skilled work and directing maintenance and repair operations for Douglas County facilities and properties.

  • Manage, plan, direct, oversee and coordinate the assigned activities in the operation and maintenance of County owned/leased facilities/properties.
  • Supervise assigned staff monitoring workload.
  • Interact with managers and directors and other agencies to identify building system operation and maintenance needs.
  • Establish effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
  • Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment. 
  • Maintain contract documents (e.g. Drawings, installations, manuals, specifications, repairs, installation, parts) of projects. 
  • Conduct facility walk-throughs to identify, review, and document facility needs for repairs and alterations.
  • Monitor and utilize the Preventative Maintenance and Work Order System.
  • Maintain the functionality of the facility by ensuring items are being completed, corrected and/or replaced.
  • Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service and delivery, methods, and procedures. Control boiler room and chiller plant operations ensuring efficient and effective operation.
  • Assist with inspections (e.g. insurance carriers, fire marshal) of the physical plant.
  • Perform supervisory functions (e.g. scheduling, payroll, training performance appraisals, personnel actions). 
  • Ensure resources (e.g. inventory, adequate spare parts and materials) to perform routine maintenance. 
  • Monitor hired contractors (e.g. inspect work, generate deficiencies).
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization and safety of shops and equipment rooms.
  • Maintain current knowledge of equipment technology and trends. 
  • Perform Licensed Engineer duties during emergencies and during training.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business. 
  • Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
  • Third (3rd) Grade Engineer's license required. 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 

  • Three (3) years of experience as Licensed Engineer required.

  • Two (2) years of experience with MSOffice required.

  • Valid driver’s license at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment required. 

  • Completion of pre-employment criminal records check and conditional offer drug screen and physical assessment required.

  • Work is performed inside and outside with constant exposure to varying environmental conditions (e.g. adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, vibrations, mechanical/electrical hazards, biohazards). Occasionally, work may be performed in confined spaces, above ground and below ground, in or around high traffic areas. Hours of work are generally normal day-shift hours; however schedule may vary (e.g. days, hours, extra hours/overtime, weekends, holidays, emergency call-ins). Noise levels may frequently be loud. Work may be stressful due to multiple/changing priorities, limited resources, time constraints, and interactions with uncooperative/irate individuals.

  • The work requires considerable physical activity including frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and occasional sitting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, twisting, pulling and pushing. Incumbents must have the ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and to occasionally up to 100 pounds.

  • Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing, touch and smell. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbents must possess eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate computers, tools, and other equipment.

Salary : $34 - $51
