DCHD is looking to hire an Environmental Health Specialist.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Regular work hours: Mon-Fri. 8 hrs
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with customers, the general public, healthcare professionals, and other professional personnel. Must have the ability to work with diverse community groups. Computer and writing skills with a knowledge of Microsoft Office Access is a must. Must have a dependable vehicle for use during work hours, valid Illinois Driver’s License, and appropriate auto insurance. Must be physically able to get in and out of a car many times per day in all types of weather conditions and be able to adapt in a positive manner to conditions (i.e. sewer, septic). Must be able to carry, pull, and manage a minimum of 25 pounds of equipment daily.
Summary of Job Duties: Reviews/approves permits for food services operations and inspects facilities for compliance. Completes activity reports and records of inspections, investigations, and correspondence. Collects required environmental health samples. Reviews applications for construction of water wells and private sewage disposal systems and conducts field inspections. Makes recommendations relative to the protection and disinfection of private water supplies. Investigates complaints relating to applicable programs. Participates in epidemiological surveys. Assist with conducting activities falling under the Illinois Tobacco Free Communities grant program. These activities include regulatory, educational, and collaborative efforts to promote tobacco prevention within the community. In addition, provide support in programs related to vector surveillance/control, solid waste, and other environmental health related fields.

Bachelor's (preferred)
Experience:
EHS: 1 year (preferred)
LEHP: preferred but not required.
