What are the responsibilities and job description for the CJS Case Services Specialist position at Douglas County Government (CO)?
This is a paraprofessional position that provides clerical and administrative support to case workers, supervisors, and the assistant county attorney. This position involves clerical tasks and direct contact with clients on the crisis hotline, for records procurement, and for adoption subsidies/Medicaid cases and RGAP subsidy cases. This position is designed to support various functions throughout the child welfare process, including but not limited to CBI/FBI database and records, collaboration with community organizations and donations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED.
A minimum of two (2) years working in human services, social services setting or related equivalent.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database, successfully completing CJIS training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
- Answers telephone and greets the public, provides accurate program information, convey messages, and participate in the affective resolution of problems and complaints.
- Utilizes and accesses the State of Colorado’s database to follow and record next court date information and decipher disposition information for program enrollment. Performs complex clerical tasks: compiles, verifies, and maintains records on the Division’s automated computer system. May process invoices and purchase orders associated with the programs operating out the Community Justice Service Department.
- Maintains and is responsible for receiving and recording program fees associated with Pretrial Release Supervision, In-home Detention, DCMOP and Community Service programs. Maintains an accurate account of the Division’s petty cash.
- Interprets minute orders to accurately assess and setup pretrial release, DCMOP, community service and in-home detention clientele on the Division’s automated computer system. Prepares physical files and initial paperwork for CJS Officers.
- Receives referrals from the District/County courts, Probation Officers, and other criminal justice entities for defendants who are court ordered to complete community service hours. Interviews, screens, and places defendants in appropriate nonprofit agencies to complete their community service hours.
- Maintains a caseload monitoring client performance with referral agency and prepares written reports indicating the client’s compliance or noncompliance with the Useful Public Service / Alternative Services program. May assist Community Justice Services Officers with a variety of caseload management responsibilities.
- May have increased responsibilities in case management and resolving system related problems and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned, including: Respond to clients/community members requesting assistance in the front lobby. Participate in team meetings, trainings, outside meetings, and audits as requested.
