Dougherty Laybourn Menashe Dental | NW Portland, Oregon
Full-time | $30–$36 per hour, depending on experience

Bring your dental front office expertise—and make every patient feel cared for.

Dougherty Laybourn Menashe Dental is seeking an experienced dental front office professional who combines strong knowledge of dental practice operations with exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate understands dental scheduling, insurance benefits, treatment coordination, and patient accounts, and can confidently contribute with minimal training in these fundamentals. Just as importantly, you enjoy building relationships and making patients feel welcome, comfortable, and supported.

As the face of our established, privately owned practice, you’ll bring both the expertise to keep the day running smoothly and the warmth to make each visit feel personal.

What you’ll do

  • Welcome patients promptly and personally, providing attentive service from arrival through checkout.
  • Manage dental scheduling with an understanding of appointment types, procedure timing, and provider needs.
  • Proactively fill cancellations and follow up on unscheduled treatment and overdue hygiene care.
  • Guide new patients from their first inquiry through scheduling, paperwork, and preparation for their visit.
  • Verify and explain insurance benefits, estimated patient costs, and financial arrangements clearly and accurately.
  • Coordinate recommended treatment and help patients understand their next steps, collaborating with the clinical team as needed.
  • Handle check-in, checkout, payments, and patient account information accurately.
  • Answer calls and patient inquiries with professionalism, empathy, and dependable follow-through.
  • Anticipate patient needs and respond graciously to concerns or schedule changes.
  • Communicate closely with the doctors and team to support an organized day.
  • Contribute to a positive office culture through kindness, accountability, and respectful teamwork.

Required qualifications

  • At least two years of hands-on dental front office experience, with the ability to independently handle core front office responsibilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of dental scheduling, terminology, procedures, insurance verification, treatment coordination, and patient accounts.
  • Proficiency with dental practice management software and accurate electronic recordkeeping.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain insurance and financial information clearly.
  • A warm, approachable manner and a commitment to exceptional patient service.
  • Strong organization, sound judgment, and dependable follow-through.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities while remaining calm and attentive to patients.
  • Initiative, a collaborative attitude, and receptiveness to feedback.

Preferred qualifications

  • Eaglesoft experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an established general dental practice.
  • Demonstrated success with schedule management, patient follow-up, and treatment coordination.
  • Knowledge of, interest in, or practical experience using AI tools is a valued advantage. We welcome thoughtful ideas for improving communication and office workflows using practice-approved technology while protecting patient confidentiality.
