Education and/or Experience
- 6 months to 1 year Lifeguarding experience
- Some High School required.
- Ability to swim laps, dive to the bottom of the pool and tread water for 3 minutes
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
- Adequate knowledge of and training in pool chemistry, rescue and surveillance techniques, CPR/AED and blood-borne pathogens.
- Participates in pool safety programs and risk management.
- Employs only those methods and teaching techniques outlined and approved by the American Red Cross.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations.
Job Summary (Essential Functions)
Responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safety and orderly behavior of Club Members and their guests, by preventing and responding to any/all emergencies. Implement all water safety policies and procedures.
Responsible for the cleanliness of the pool and all surrounding pool areas at all times.
Job Tasks/Duties
- Arrive on time for all shifts
- Maintain an accurate timesheet by clocking in/out accurately
- Must have effective verbal and listening communication skills
- Vacuums pool bottom; empties automatic skimmer; skims bugs and other debris from surface to prepare pool for daily use.
- Wash pool deck each morning before opening
- Supervises and observes swimmers at all times to ensure their safety.
- Administers care to swimmers’ minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises.
- Maintains amenities in and cleanliness of changing rooms, bathrooms and showers.
- Enforces all facility policies, rules of conduct at the pool and safety regulations
- Checks first aid supplies and reports needed items.
- Organizes and monitors pool games at all times; suggests pool-side games.
- Places rescue tube and ring buoy on the lifeguard chair in the morning; returns these and all swimming aids and pool toys to the storage area when the pool closes
- Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to Pool Manager, Maintenance or GM
- Remove all trash from pool area, take to dumpster (no trash should be left on the pool desk or in bathrooms at closing)
- Straightens pool furniture, store umbrellas are clean the pool deck at the end of each day
- Maintains all necessary records determined by the Swimming Pool Manager.
- Attends all meetings as directed by the Swimming Pool Manager.
- Complete any incident or accident reports immediately
- Maintain fitness level (strength and endurance) by swimming regularly
- Informs swimming pool manager about unresolved member or guest disruptions that could cause a safety problem.
- Duties require attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors. This position requires proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first‐aid techniques.
- Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Swimming Pool Manager or General Manager
Licenses and Special Requirements
- Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate.
- American Red Cross Basic First Aid required, training on AED units and possession of a current Red Cross CPR card.
- Must be of legal working age determined by the state of Georgia
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and/or crouch
- Continuous repetitive motions.
- Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to observe all activities in the pool area
- Physical exertion over long periods of time
- Work in hot and humid environment
- Ability to tolerate exposure to the sun for long periods of time
- Push, pull and lift 50 pounds
- Working conditions are often, hot, humid slippery and wet
- Able to work in a busy, noisy environment
- Flexible working schedules with weekends and holiday work
- Able to tolerate the smell of chlorine and frequent exposure to cleaning agents
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
