Duties
- Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, and other lifting devices to install and service aerial telecommunications cables and fiber optic systems.
- Perform telecommunications outside plant operations, including cable splicing, fiber optic network installation, and testing using specialized telecommunications testing equipment.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to accurately execute cable routing and infrastructure setup.
- Install telecommunications cables outdoors while adhering strictly to safety standards outlined in the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
- Maintain detailed records of installations, repairs, and inspections while supporting ongoing network infrastructure upgrades.
Experience
- Proven experience in field service roles involving outdoor work environments with a focus on telecommunications or utility services.
- Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and hand tools required for cable installation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cables, fiber splicing techniques, and the installation of telecommunications network cables.
- Familiarity with telecommunication systems including Ethernet, telephony, LAN, WAN, and IT infrastructure components.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics related to cabling layouts and network infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols aligned with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) for outdoor electrical work.
- Technical proficiency with diagnostic tools used for troubleshooting fiber optic networks and telecommunication systems.
- Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions with a focus on safety compliance and quality workmanship.
