This position is responsible for the custodial care and maintenance of agency buildings.
Major Duties:
Empties and cleans waste receptacles; replaces liners.
Cleans and sanitizes restrooms; restocks restroom supplies.
Cleans lobby and common areas.
Cleans classrooms.
Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, polishes, and vacuums floors.
Dusts and polishes furniture, blinds, and window sills.
Sets up rooms for meetings.
Washes windows, walls, and baseboards.
Maintains supply inventory; stocks cleaning supplies.
Mops breezeways.
Collects litter from the lawn.
Cleans a variety of floor surfaces.
Reports repair needs to appropriate personnel.
Cleans spills.
Raises and lowers the flag.
Maintains certification in CPR and First Aid.
Performs other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary; not otherwise specified.
Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the use of various cleaning chemicals.
Skill in operating such cleaning equipment as a vacuum cleaner, stripper, buffers, burnisher, etc.
Skill in following instructions.
Skill in prioritizing work.
Supervisory Controls:
The Facilities Technician supervises and assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
Guidelines:
Guidelines include agency policy, Alabama Department of Mental Health guidelines, Medicaid guidelines, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope of Work:
The work consists of related custodial duties. The necessity of working around the public contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to perform custodial maintenance in agency buildings. Successful performance contributes to the provision of clean and attractive facilities for employees, individuals, and visitors.

Contacts are typically with coworkers, other agency employees, individuals served, vendors, and the general public.
Contacts are typically to provide services.

required for this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work is typically performed both indoors and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations and a high school diploma or GED.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
