Family Services Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
Salary Level: Level 25
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Principal
Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system. (9 month position)
REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in coordinating and conducting Recruitment and Enrollment procedures for Dothan City School Head Start program in accordance with ACYF guidelines.
2. Assist in completing requirements within the Family/Community Partnership component for the families as outlined in the Revised Performance Standards in cooperation with the Parental Involvement Specialist and Principal.
3. Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for Head Start.
4. Assist in conducting training and workshops for parents.
5. Assist in directing and coordinating the Family/Community Partnership performance standards for Dothan City Schools Head Start and for the classrooms established in the community.
6. Assist the Parental Involvement Specialist and Principal in the preparation of reports and all requirements appropriate to the Family/Community Partnership area.
7. Keep the Parental Involvement Specialist and the Principal informed of all Family/Community Partnership activities and problems.
8. Assist with all recruitment and engagement activities
9. Maintains confidentiality of all information and records regarding children and families served by the program
10. Assist with training and workshops for parents
11. Assist component coordinators in scheduling and making home visits to assist and advise parents in social services needs, health needs, and educational needs.
12. All Head Start staff members must receive an initial physical exam, complete a TB test and be CPR certified
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to read, write, and speak correctly.
2. Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.
3. Ability to recognize problems, collect data, gather facts, and make reasonable decisions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 1O pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move over 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Physical ability to move about in the classroom to monitor and supervise students is required.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
