District Recruitment for Rapides Parish:
The overall function of this position is as a Mechanic-Body Repairer 2. This position is located in the District 08/Unit 071/Heavy Equipment Shop of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Mechanic Supervisor A. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.

Job Duties and Other Information
- Must have the knowledge and experience to skillfully operate, use and maintain all body repair shop machines and equipment used in the safe performance of fabricating, building, repairing and painting various vehicles, equipment and tools.
- Must meet all structured training requirements for this position and maintain a valid Class E license.
- Will regularly be on call for afterhours emergencies and may be required to utilize communication devices
- Will be required to perform manual labor tasks and prepare documents such as Daily Work Reports, Equipment Repair Orders, and Daily Vehicle Inspection reports
- Performs major disassembly and reassembly of body components including cutting, welding, filing, sanding, filling of body components and replacement parts.
- Repairs seat assemblies, door locks interior upholstery, dashboards, and floor mats. Adjust and align body components such as doors, hinges, hoods, springs, latches, bumpers, and replace door glasses, windows, moldings and trim.
Expectations:
- Operate desktop computer and have word processing skills.
- Random drug testing required.
- Troubleshooting skills with heavy equipment scan tool and diagnostic tools.
- Must respond to callouts during after-hours, days off, weekends, and holidays.
- Work tasks are carried out during ALL types of extreme weather conditions and hazardous work environments.
