Position Summary:
DOTCOM is seeking a dependable Underground Laborer / Drill Locator to support underground telecommunications construction projects. This dual-role position assists directional drilling crews while operating locating equipment to guide bore paths safely and accurately for fiber and coax installation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist HDD crews with setup, operation, and cleanup of drilling equipment
- Operate electronic locating equipment to track and guide drill head position and depth
- Communicate bore path information clearly to the drill operator
- Perform potholing and expose existing utilities using safe digging practices
- Read and interpret utility locates, construction prints, and work orders
- Support trenching, conduit installation, backfilling, and site restoration
- Maintain accurate bore logs, production records, and daily reports
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on tools and equipment
- Follow DOTCOM safety procedures and comply with OSHA and local regulations
Qualifications:
- 1–3 years of experience in underground utility or telecommunications construction preferred
- Experience using locating systems such as DigiTrak or Subsite preferred (training may be provided)
- Understanding of underground utility safety and damage prevention practices
- Ability to read construction drawings and utility locates
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus)
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
