Freight Specialist

Location: Mt. Sterling, IL

Department: Dot Transportation, Inc. (DTI)

Reports To: Assistant Transportation Manager – Traffic

Wage Range: $16.80 - $25.20

As a Freight Specialist, you will provide support to the Traffic Department in coordination with outside resources to improve profitability and service to our customers.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Communicate using email, unique company portals, and phone
• Utilize Transportation Management Systems to book and tender loads
• Data entry such as load information, lane rates, etc.
• Enter and update operating systems with accurate data
• Communicate with internal and external customers
• Maintains contact with contracted carriers or brokers and monitors carrier on time delivery
• Works on various projects as assigned to help monitor costs and improve service
• Apply lean thinking and tools to identify and eliminate waste in all areas of the position.
• Maintain timely and professional communication with customer contacts on issues impacting service and overall performance

YOU MUST HAVE

• High School diploma, General Equivalency Degree, or relevant work experience
• Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work well with both internal and external customers
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

YOU MAY ALSO HAVE

• Experience working in both team and independent settings
• Effective organizational skills
• Skills to be successful in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines

ROLE SPECIFICS

• Schedule: Full Time – Monday through Friday; 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
