Position Summary: As a Mechanic at Dot’s Rentals, you’ll use your skills to perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs of equipment in a safe and professional manner. Every day, you can improve and challenge yourself, and if you have the desire and ambition, you’ll have the potential to work towards higher-level mechanic roles in our Service Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Inspect, service, and perform preventative maintenance on rental equipment, including earthmoving, compaction, aerial, material-handling, and small equipment, following established maintenance schedules
• Perform routine service tasks including oil changes, lubrication of grease fittings, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements, and related maintenance
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and propane systems on both small and large equipment
• Recondition equipment by repairing or replacing worn or damaged components to ensure equipment is safe and rental-ready
• Perform trailer repairs including brake repairs, alignments, and welding as needed
• Apply mechanical knowledge and problem-solving skills using diagnostic tools and technical manuals
• Test repaired equipment to verify proper performance before returning it to service
• Maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation of all work performed, including work orders and parts usage
• Assist with customer-owned equipment repairs, equipment pick-up and delivery, and parts transport as needed
• Maintain an organized and safe work area, ensuring proper care of tools and shop equipment
• Stay current on vendor maintenance requirements and participate in ongoing training and certifications to support role progression
• Be on call during select hours for onsite maintenance
• Uphold all company safety standards and procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• 1–3 years of mechanical experience, preferably working with construction or rental equipment
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and propane systems
• Working knowledge of electrical systems and basic diagnostics
• Ability to work on both small tools and larger equipment as priorities change
• Competent computer skills for completing electronic work orders and ordering parts
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Propane handling (LP-Gas) license preferred or willingness to obtain
• Forklift certification preferred
• Welding experience is an asset
• Technical school or additional mechanical training is an asset but not required
• Strong communication skills, customer-service mindset, and ability to work well within a team
• Organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to lift/move approximately 50-70 lbs
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
• Repetitive bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items
• Most work will be performed outside
• May have exposure to chemicals, including but not limited to gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, kerosene, and cleaning solvents

Schedule: Monday – Friday. *Possible overtime/On-Call hours during the busy season
