Job Summary
The Professional Surveyor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing all surveying activities necessary to support construction operations. The Professional Surveyor serves as the technical authority for survey accuracy and field measurements, working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, engineers, subcontractors, and field personnel. This position plays a critical role in maintaining project quality, productivity, and compliance through precise surveying, modeling, and construction support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform construction layout and staking for utilities, grading, structures, roadways, and site development.
Establish, verify, and maintain project survey control, benchmarks, and reference points.
Provide accurate grade control for excavation, embankment, and fine grading activities.
Support GPS machine control systems, including setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and model deployment.
Develop, maintain, and update digital terrain models (DTMs), alignments, and survey data files.
Verify construction work for compliance with plans, specifications, elevations, and tolerances.
Conduct as-built surveys and maintain accurate records for project documentation and closeout.
Assist project teams with quantity calculations, pay quantities, change orders, and progress tracking.
Identify design conflicts, survey discrepancies, and grade issues, and communicate solutions to project leadership.
Maintain and calibrate survey equipment, GPS systems, data collectors, and related technology.
Train and support field personnel in the use of GPS rovers and grade verification procedures.
Coordinate daily survey priorities with project management and field operations teams.
Ensure survey data is properly organized, backed up, and distributed to field and office personnel.
Represent the company professionally when working with clients, inspectors, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
Promote and maintain safe work practices in accordance with company policies and industry standards.

Minimum 3 to 5 years of construction surveying experience, with heavy civil, site development, utility, roadway, or earthwork projects preferred.
Proficiency with Total Stations, GNSS/GPS equipment, robotic survey systems, and data collectors.
Experience with survey software, CAD platforms, machine control systems, and digital terrain modeling.
Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, grades, alignments, and survey control principles.
Ability to perform field calculations, quantity verification, and construction layout with a high degree of accuracy.
Knowledge of construction methods, earthwork operations, and quality control procedures.
