Role: Industrial Designer, Contract
Type: Contract (In-Office Overlap Required)
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Hourly Rate: $40/hour
About Doris
Doris is a product design, engineering, and brand studio based in New York, with a dedicated team in Hong Kong. We design, engineer, source, and manufacture consumer products. That’s four disciplines on one team, integrated from day one. We’ve launched 500 products and won 12 design awards.
We work with startups, Fortune 100 companies, and heritage brands. Our categories include hardware and electronics, appliances, cookware, soft goods, furniture, home accessories, and packaging.
Design here starts with observation and research. It ends with a product that can be tooled, made, and shipped. Every object needs a reason to exist.
The Contract
We’re bringing on a contract industrial designer to lead design on multiple client programs, from brief to production handoff. Your main point-of-contact will be the Director of Industrial Design and you will interface with our clients directly. You’ll also work alongside our engineering and sourcing teams in New York, Hong Kong, and China.

- Duration: Temporary 2-6 months, scoped by program
- Hours: Up to 40 hours per week, schedule at your discretion, with availability during core studio hours for client reviews and team syncs.

- Deliver production-ready CAD, renderings, CMF specs, and design documentation against agreed program milestones.
Who you are
- You have 3 years as a professional industrial designer, ideally at a consultancy or studio.
- Your portfolio includes shipped products, not only concepts.
- You have strong form skills grounded in function.
- You ramp fast and work independently. Contract means productive in week one, not month two.
- You’re a clear, confident presenter.
- You’re advanced in Rhino, Onshape, SolidWorks, KeyShot, and Photoshop.
Bonus Points
- Direct experience with overseas suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Studio experience that brings a different perspective to how we work.
