Agricultural Equipment Operator

Dorenkamp Land and Cattle
Holly, CO Temporary
POSTED ON 4/14/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/14/2026
We are a farming and silage harvest crew operating locally on land owned by Dorenkamp Land and Cattle. Our operation includes both custom silage harvesting and farming company-owned land. In the spring and fall, we custom chop sorghum silage and corn silage for two primary customers: a large dairy and a large feedlot, both located within approximately 45 miles of the employees’ home base. Crops farmed for Dorenkamp Land and Cattle include alfalfa, corn, milo, sorghum silage, wheat, and other rotational crops depending on annual agronomic needs. Spring silage harvesting typically begins in April and concludes in mid to late May. Fall harvesting begins in August and continues through mid-November. Outside of active harvest periods, employees are primarily engaged in farming activities on land owned by Logan Dorenkamp, including field preparation, irrigation, and crop maintenance. Each workday begins with communication between employees and a foreman to review individual assignments and daily responsibilities. Employees will monitor irrigation systems, including sprinklers and flood irrigation, set dams, shovel, and manage watering schedules to efficiently irrigate fields. Duties include operating tractors with and without GPS guidance systems; operating heavy equipment such as large CAT loaders and Kioti skid steers; driving Massey Ferguson swathers to cut alfalfa; and packing silage using large, dual-wheeled, four-wheel-drive tractors. Employees will operate Claas silage choppers, which are equipped with air conditioning, communication systems, and operator amenities. Semi-truck drivers will operate manual-transmission semi-trucks pulling chain-floor silage trailers to load, transport, and unload silage, alfalfa, and feed bales. Employees will communicate throughout the day with other crew members and foremen using CB radios and truck-mounted communication systems to coordinate harvesting operations and maintain productivity. During spring and fall harvest seasons, work is repetitive and task-focused. Employees are responsible for daily equipment servicing, including greasing machinery, checking air filters, monitoring tire pressure, and performing basic maintenance on assigned equipment. Most harvesting occurs on pivot-irrigated fields, which are harvested in circular patterns, simplifying machine operation. Harvest work is performed exclusively for two nearby customers, and employees are not required to travel more than approximately 50–60 miles from their home base. Employees return to their listed home address each evening. Communication is a key component of our operation, and a foreman is always accessible to provide guidance, direction, and support. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer.
