As a Product Development Engineer, you will support the design and development of innovative juvenile wood furniture products with a focus on Ready-to-Assemble (RTA) solutions. This role has a global focus and ensures products meet international safety standards, deliver superior ease of assembly, and align with global compliance requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams worldwide to guarantee manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction while maintaining strict adherence to regional regulations and sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design and review detailed 3D and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and other CAD tools; manage technical specifications, BOMs, and verification plans.
• Collaborate with global teams and suppliers to ensure component specifications, tolerances, manufacturability, and compliance with international standards (ASTM, EN, ISO) and regional regulations (EU, UK, APAC).
• Ensure designs meet structural integrity, aesthetic, cost, and safety requirements; conduct DFMEA, tolerance studies, and design reviews to drive quality and reliability.
• Coordinate prototype evaluations and consumer product testing to validate design concepts and regulatory compliance.
• Gather and analyze Voice of Customer (VOC) data to define product requirements; work cross-functionally with marketing, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Support development and maintenance of regulatory documentation, safety warnings, and product protocols internally and with third-party labs.
• Up to 20–30% international travel annually for supplier visits, compliance audits, and collaboration with global teams. Must be able to travel on short notice for urgent compliance or quality issues.
• Perform other tasks as required.
Education, Experience & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
• Proven experience in juvenile product design, Ready-to-Assemble (RTA) furniture engineering, and wood materials a must.
• 3 years of experience with SolidWorks CAD, 2D drawings, and BOM management.
• Strong knowledge of DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and product testing.
• Leadership experience in managing engineering projects and teams.
• Expertise in global compliance standards: ASTM, ANSI/BIFMA, ISO, CARB, FSC, and regional requirements (EU, UK, APAC).
• Familiarity with furniture fabrics and international testing standards (ISO 12947 abrasion, EN 1021 flammability, OEKO-TEX® chemical safety) is a plus.
• Experience with upholstered RTA furniture and power recliners, including global electrical safety standards (UL, CE, RoHS) and durability/cycle testing.
• Skilled in writing design requirements and test methods.
• Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills.
