About the Role
Dorchester Seniors, Inc. (DSI) is seeking a reliable, compassionate Transportation Specialist to provide safe and dependable transportation and home-delivered meal (HDM) services for DSI members throughout Dorchester County. This role also performs daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to keep DSI's fleet safe and road-ready. The Transportation Specialist is often the only DSI staff member a homebound member sees on a given day, and is expected to represent DSI with professionalism, care, and reliability in every interaction.
What You'll Do
- Transport DSI members safely and on schedule to and from DSI center locations and community outings, including operation of the wheelchair lift as needed
- Deliver home-delivered meals (HDM) to members' residences throughout Dorchester County on assigned routes
- Perform a thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle safety inspection on every shift, documenting findings and reporting any concerns to your supervisor
- Operate DSI vehicles in full compliance with traffic laws and DSI safety policies at all times
- Maintain vehicle fuel levels, cleanliness, and general road-readiness
- Use GPS/smartphone technology to authenticate pickups and deliveries as required by grant contracts
- Maintain accurate daily driving logs, mileage records, route sheets, and passenger documentation
- Notice and report any changes in a member's condition or well-being to the Director or Nutrition Coordinator
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid South Carolina driver's license with no more than six points in violations
- Clean driving record; ability to pass DSI's pre-employment motor vehicle background check
- Ability to drive standard-equipped vehicles, including a 15-passenger bus/van
- Ability to safely operate a wheelchair lift
- Comfortable using GPS and smartphone technology for route documentation
- Good verbal and written communication skills and a calm, patient manner with older adults
- ServSafe Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire
Schedule & Compensation
- Full-time, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with a one-hour lunch break
- Friday, 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM
- No weekend or holiday work required
- Starting pay: $16-$18 per hour
- Full-time employees are eligible for DSI's benefits package, subject to plan terms
Salary : $16 - $18
