PUMPSTATION SUPERINTENDENT

Description

The purpose of this job is to supervise the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of, lift stations and grinder pumps; to oversee the operations of sewer pump stations and grinder stations for the County; to inspect air release valves and wet wells; and to perform other technical work as required.

This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversees the operation and maintenance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system servers, workstations, networks, PC equipment, printers and related equipment including security requirements.

Schedules preventive maintenance work required on wastewater pumping stations and assigns specific tasks management system for pump stations.

Assists in developing and administering the department budget; ensures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities and time; and approves related expenditures and payroll.

Supervises assigned crew members. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; recommending employee discipline; and recommending discharge as appropriate.

Oversees and assist in the installation, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing of electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and equipment.

Reviews the work of assigned crew members for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; and offers advice and assistance as needed.

Ensures crew members perform all work in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.

Reviews water and sewer plans; coordinates with design/construction of related pump station projects.

Develops and implements department policies and procedures

Provides for adequate staff training opportunities such as technical training for safety and licensing continuing education units (CEUs).

Assists and advises crews in the conduct of routine tasks; may plan and direct emergency maintenance activities that involve loss of service or property damage with minimal disruption to the public.

Leads and participates in the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers and equipment operators using tools and maintenance equipment to service and repair wastewater pump stations.

Orders supplies, materials and equipment.

Determines efficiency of operations, maintenance requirements, and cleanliness of equipment and processes.

Attends meetings, training, seminars, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Provides leadership to and assists in training all wastewater operators.

Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college.

Four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements

Special Qualifications, Certifications and Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Must possess a “D” Wastewater Collection License.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status. Must be available to work holidays and weekends during emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing.
