Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this job is to work within the scope of established federal, state, county and departmental regulations, procedures, and rules. Provide lifesaving care to patients at the scene of an emergency and during transportation in an ambulance in route to a hospital. Assesses critical illnesses and injuries, provide first aid treatment, and perform basic lifesaving healthcare on the scene.
Essential Job Functions
Responds to calls for medical assistance, such as at the scene of a car accident where someone is injured.
Assesses people's condition and determines what treatment, if any, is needed.
Manages emergencies such as those related to respiratory, cardiac, or trauma incidents.
Provides basic life support, including patient assessment, airway management, IV monitoring, assisting patient with prescribed medications or those authorized by Maryland State protocol.
Assesses patient vital signs such as bleeding control and bandaging; shock management; fracture management; CPR, AED, oxygen administration; airway management; emergency medical management; patient assisted medications; spinal immobilization; patient movement and transport.
Attend special events as required.
Maintains all certifications as required by Dorchester County and the State of Maryland.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Certifications (minimum Qualifications)
High school diploma or GED.
Must be cleared by the Medical Director to actively practice.
Possess Maryland Emergency Medical Technician Basic Certification.
EVOC or acceptable equivalent course within six months after employment.
FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 preferred.
CPR Certified.
Successfully complete Precept Training Process as applicable (maximum training not to exceed 6 months)
Familiarity with Image Trend and Operative IQ.
Possession of a valid drivers license with no more than three points is required.
Excellent communication and people skills.
Ability to navigate stakeholder relationships in life threatening situations.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Physical Requirements And Working Environment
Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires- climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion.
Must be able to exert over one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and or up to fifty pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels with those for very heavy work.
Must be able to endure high heat conditions and sub-freezing temperatures. Must be able to work in tight and closed spaces for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in situations of low visibility and under stressful conditions.
Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various environments.
Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor settings, exposed to varying weather conditions.

Will be required to work on religious holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
When position requires vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by Dorchesters safe driving policy.
