The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides essential care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or other specialized care requirements. The DSP will assist individuals in achieving their personal goals, ensuring a high quality of life, and promoting independence in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support to individuals, including assistance with daily living activities, personal care, and hygiene.
- Develop and implement individualized support plans tailored to the needs and preferences of each individual.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and supportive relationship with individuals, their families, and other care team members.
- Encourage and assist individuals in community participation, recreational activities, and social engagement.
- Monitor and report on individuals' progress, health, and well-being to supervisors and healthcare professionals.
- Administer medications and provide basic healthcare support as trained and authorized.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized living environment for individuals.
- Assist in the development of life skills, including communication, budgeting, cooking, and transportation.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, incidents, and observations as required by agency policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain competence in providing high-quality care.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional relevant certifications or training preferred.
- Previous experience in direct support, caregiving, or a related field is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable.
- Basic knowledge of healthcare practices and safety protocols.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required.
- Ability to pass background checks and any other required screenings.
