Position Summary:
In this fast-paced and rewarding role, you’ll be the friendly face that provides medication to other health care professionals for patient administration, ensuring their pharmacy experience is smooth and supportive. You will assist in the preparation and dispensing of medications, including USP 797 & USP 800 compounded sterile products, and manage inventory while collaborating closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. We value your ability to communicate effectively with health care providers and multidisciplinary care teams, providing exceptional customer service at every interaction.
Essential Functions:
- Read and interpret physician medication orders accurately.
- Prepare high-quality sterile and non-sterile compounded medications (e.g., capsules, creams, troches, IV solutions) under strict aseptic conditions.
- Execute compounding procedures and maintain detailed batch records and logs.
- Perform necessary quality assurance and quality control checks on all compounded products.
- Accurately calculate dosages and prepare medications per prescription requirements.
- Ensure adherence to appropriate safety, quality assurance, and organizational policies.
- Properly handle, package, and label medications, including those requiring special handling (e.g., hazardous drugs).
- Manage and maintain drug inventory; restock supplies and ensure proper storage.
- Answer phone calls and assist patients and providers with professionalism and courtesy.
- Triage and prioritize workflow for efficiency and accuracy.
- Support daily pharmacy operations, including cleaning, logging, and environmental monitoring.
- Participate in internal performance improvement and quality assurance programs.
- Assist in inspections and comply with all regulatory requirements. Complete all required initial and ongoing training related to sterile compounding.
Qualifications:
Education & Training:
- High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a formal sterile compounding training program (PCCA, ACA, ASHP) preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in sterile compounding. Experience with compounding equipment, calibration, and environmental monitoring protocols.
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid pharmacy technician registration or certification (as required by state).
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred. Advanced compounding training from a recognized organization is a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficient in pharmaceutical calculations and conversions.
- Strong understanding of pharmacy law, USP standards, and cleanroom protocols.
- Comfortable working in ISO Class 5 environments and non-sterile hazardous rooms.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Technologically proficient (Microsoft Office Suite, pharmacy software systems).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
