Senior Windows System Administrator

Our Utility Client in the Bronx, NY is looking for a 12 month HYBRID Windows Administrator contractor to come onsite 2-3 days a week. Must be strong with AD, VMWare, Windows, SQL Server and PowerShell.

Interview Process: MS Teams and then 2nd round FTF interview. MUST BE LOCAL CANDIDATE

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Windows System Administrator to join our contract IT team. The ideal candidate will have 5–7 years of hands-on experience managing Windows environments and a strong understanding of SQL databases. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing our Windows-based infrastructure and supporting SQL systems that are critical to business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer, maintain, and optimize Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022).
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Windows patching. Monitor system performance and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues. Implement, support and maintain backup/recovery solutions and disaster recovery plans. Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server environments. Write and optimize SQL queries and scripts for system automation and reporting.
• Collaborate with development and application teams to ensure system compatibility and performance.
• Collaborate with customers, adjacent technical teams and all level of management to address systems issues.
• Maintain security best practices, including system hardening and vulnerability management.
• Produce documentation for system configurations, procedures, and change controls.

Qualifications:

• 5–7 years of experience in Windows system administration in mid to large-scale environments.
• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (installation, maintenance, scripting, performance tuning).
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation.
• Higher level of familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V and Nutanix).
• Understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs).
• Knowledge of ITIL practices and change management processes is a plus.
