SUMMARY: 

Facilitate the effective use of computers and other technology in instructional programs districtwide.  Assist in the development of short- and long-range plans for the integration of technology into the instructional program.  Implement and coordinate the technology staff development and training program.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff Development

  1. Provide leadership and technical expertise to principals and other district personnel in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of effective instructional technology throughout the district.
  2. Direct and coordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive staff development plan for the use of instructional technology.
  3. Provide staff development to teachers and administrators in methods of involving technology in the delivery of the curriculum.

 

Curriculum Development

  1. Ensure the integration of technology in the existing curriculum.
  2. Direct the writing of curriculum for technology programs and monitor the instructional process in all content areas using technology.
  3. Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments in technology education at the state and national level.
  4. Develop and implement a continuing evaluation of the instructional technology program and implement changes based on the findings.

 

Technical Support

  1. Assist with the bidding process, purchase, distribution, maintenance, and installation of hardware, software, and other technological equipment and materials within instructional programs.
  2. Serve as liaison to outside vendors that provide support for technology equipment and materials.

 

Budget

  1. Administer the instructional technology budget and ensure that program is cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
  2. Compile budget and cost estimates.
  3. Coordinate the selection of technology equipment and software; maintain a database of all instructional software in the district.

 

Policy, Reports, and Law

  1. Assist in the development of policies and procedures regarding technology issues.
  2. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of instructional technology.
  3. Compile, maintain, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.

 

Personnel Management

  1. Assist in the recruitment and selection of personnel and make sound recommendations relative to placement, assignment, discipline, and dismissal.
  2. Evaluate the performance of instructional technology personnel to ensure effectiveness.
  3. Develop training options and improvement plans for technology personnel to ensure best operation of programs.

 

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  3. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
  4. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree in educational administration preferred

Three years experience as a classroom teacher

Three years experience working with computer hardware and instructional software applications

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications.  Knowledge of technologies available for use in instructional setting.  Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation.  Ability to develop and deliver technology training to adult learners.  Ability to manage budget and personnel. Ability to coordinate district function.  Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.  Ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand, talk or hear and travel from one building to another or to other sites.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Light to moderate lifting is required.

 

This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints, interacting with the public and staff, and enduring irregular or extended work hours

 

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet but will vary depending on the site and the activity being conducted.
