Job Description: Scale Operator

Location: 2453 Artur Kill Road, Staten Island, NY

Job Type/Schedule: Full-time; M-F: 7am – 5pm & SAT: 7AM – 1PM

Salary: $18.00 to $20.00 hour

Position Summary:

Donjon Marine is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Scale Operator to join our team. As a Scale Operator, you will be responsible for accurately weighing incoming and outgoing materials, recording data, and providing excellent customer service. Your role is crucial in ensuring efficient operations and maintaining accurate inventory records.

Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain the scale system to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles and materials.
• Accurately record weights, vehicle information, material descriptions, and other relevant data into the computer system.
• Inspect materials to ensure they match customer descriptions and quality standards.
• Direct vehicles to appropriate areas for loading or unloading.
• Provide exceptional customer service by assisting drivers and addressing inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
• Calculate and communicate material values to customers based on weight and current pricing.
• Maintain accurate records of transactions, including weight tickets, receipts, and other documentation.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of scales and equipment.
• Assist with other yard duties as needed, such as sorting materials or directing traffic.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience as a scale operator or in a similar role preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Basic math skills and ability to perform calculations.
• Proficient computer skills, including data entry and scale operating software.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment in various weather conditions.
• Ability to operate a two-way radio.
• Basic knowledge of scrap metal grades and materials is a plus.
• Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
