Required Job Tasks

The following list is intended as a general description of employees’ job duties and responsibilities.  However, it is not an exhaustive list, and employees must perform all duties required of them by board policy or as directed by administrators or their supervisors.  Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

1. Maintaining a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning; 
2. Creating, selecting, and using effective instructional methods and learning materials;
3. Establishing a cooperative relationship with all assigned students. 
4. Maintaining open lines of communication with parents/guardians;
5. Engaging in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development; 
6. Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to a range of classes; 
7. Marking pupils’ work, giving appropriate feedback, and maintaining records of pupils' progress and development; 
8. Researching new topic areas and maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge; 
9. Creating, devising, and writing new curriculum materials, lesson plans, tests, computer programs, and other education-related content in any form or medium; 
10. Selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment;
11. Continuously updating and improving teaching and disciplinary methods;
12. Participating in and responding positively to the district’s evaluation and school improvement process;
13. Managing pupil behavior in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehavior; 
14. Reading and comprehending books, curriculum materials, student work, and the like;
15. Communicating with students, staff, and parents orally, electronically, and in printed form;
16. Using computers and other electronic technology to learn, teach, and communicate;
17. Working collaboratively to achieve the overall purposes of the school program. 
18. Moving around the classroom, hallways, and common areas of the school;
19. Bending and stooping frequently to communicate with students and evaluate student work;
20. Supervising students on playgrounds, in school buildings, and at school activities;
21. Lifting occasionally to move and carry materials around the classroom and school building.
22. Serve as a role model to all students.
23. Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
24. Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students. 
25. Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
26. Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
27. Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
28. Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).

FLSA Status:  Exempt.

This is an at-will position.

Essential Functions:  The essential functions of the Substitute Teacher position include: (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the following identified physical requirements:
