Summary: The Bookkeeper/Audit Clerk is responsible for performing accounting and related tasks across a variety of areas within the Accounting function

Job Title: Bookkeeper/Audit Clerk

Location: Albany, NY 12234

Target Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 9:00AM to 5:00PM

Target Duration/End Date: March 2026

Description of Roles and Responsibilities:

· Assist the office with tracking fiscal program applications, claims, and supporting documentation submitted by schools, reviewing them for completeness and accuracy based on a provided set of guidelines

· Make recommendations to office leadership for the approval/disapproval of fiscal program applications/claims submitted for reimbursement payments, when applicable

· Assist in the preparation of documentation needed for contracts, contract amendments, office processes/protocols

Mandatory/Minimum Qualification, Skills, Experience Requirements:

Two-year degree in Accounting or related field. A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in Accounting or related field

Qualification, Skills, Experience Requirements:

· Working knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial accounts and records including financial software

· Highly organized and careful worker, highly self-motivated and capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks

· Knowledge of Office of the State Comptroller policies and procedures

· High level of discretion handling confidential matters

· Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of attention to detail

· Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment

· Working knowledge of business English

· Working knowledge of an alphanumeric keyboard

· Skill in the operation of a keyboard

· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

· Ability to make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately

· Ability to write legibly

· Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common office software programs including word processing, spreadsheet, or data- bases

· Ability to get along well with others; Clerical aptitude; Mental alertness; Neatness; A high degree of accuracy; Integrity; Tact

· Word processing skills/abilities are a mandatory component of the assignment. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. is required

· Must have knowledge of basic accounting and financial record keeping procedures. Some knowledge of financial terminology is also required; ability to compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers

· May also perform a variety of analysis
