Join our dynamic plastic surgery practice as a Surgical First Assistant, where you will play a vital role in supporting surgical procedures while enjoying a balanced schedule with no weekends, no evenings, and no on-call responsibilities. Your expertise will ensure smooth operative flow, optimal patient outcomes, and adherence to the highest standards of safety and infection control.
Some responsibilities of this job would include:
- Assist surgeon during a variety of plastic surgery procedures ensuring precision and safety throughout each operation
- Demonstrate proficiency in maintaining a visible, working surgical field and preparing, draping, and positioning patients for their surgery
- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, supplies, and sterile equipment following aseptic technique protocols
- Support preoperative and postoperative patient care, including discharge planning and patient education to promote recovery and satisfaction
- Demonstrate proficiency in anatomy knowledge, infection control practices, and suturing techniques as directed by the surgeon
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and calm under pressure
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques
- Skilled in the use of instruments and retractors as directed by the surgeon and anticipating and passing surgical instruments during procedures
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively for a safe, efficient, and positive work environment
- Detail oriented and the ability to order supplies and keep logs updated
- Ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and professionalism. Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Surgical First Assistant with OR experience, 1 year preferred, plastic surgery experience is highly desirable
- Certification from an accredited Surgical Assistant program
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required
