IT Low Voltage Cable Technician

POSITION SUMMARY: The Low Voltage Cable Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of structured cabling and low-voltage systems supporting PPRM USA Company operations. This position supports endpoint cabling of devices including but not limited to Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, Self-Checkout (SCO) systems, computers, printers, wireless access points (APs), security cameras, music and paging speakers, digital signage, and related network-connected equipment.

The technician performs low-voltage cable installation projects at all PPRM USA locations throughout Hawaii and California while ensuring compliance with applicable State of Hawaii and State of California requirements, National Electrical Code (NEC), building standards, and company installation guidelines. Work frequently occurs during non-business hours to minimize disruption to store operations.  The position supports a collaborative infrastructure environment across PPRM Hawaii, Gelson’s, Marukai California, and Vanshow while maintaining standardized operational practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (responsibilities include, but are not limited to):

•             Install, terminate, label, test, and certify Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6A, fiber optic, and other low-voltage cabling systems.

•             Install and support cabling infrastructure that includes but limited to:

o       Point-of-Sale (POS) systems

o       Self-Checkout (SCO) systems

o       Desktop computers and laptops

o       Network printers

o       Wireless Access Points (APs)

o       IP security cameras

o       Music and paging speaker systems

o       Digital signage and related network devices

•             Install conduit, cable pathways, and J-hook systems in accordance with State and applicable NEC regulatory requirements.

•             Route, secure, support, and organize cabling to maintain professional and code-compliant installations.

•             Conduct cable testing and certification using industry-standard testing equipment.

•             Troubleshoot cable faults, connectivity problems, and physical layer network issues.

•             Perform service calls to diagnose and repair cabling and endpoint infrastructure failures.

•             Install and mount network equipment, cabinets, racks, patch panels, cameras, and associated devices.

•             Maintain cable labeling standards and accurate documentation of installed infrastructure.

•             Create and update as-built drawings and cable records.

•             Coordinate with store management, contractors, vendors, and internal IT personnel during installations and projects.

•             Ensure all installations meet company standards for quality, reliability, and safety.

•             Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting project schedules and deadlines.

•             Travel to all PPRM USA retail locations as required.

o   Travel times may vary; however, the duration could be longer if project requirements necessitate an extended stay

•             Participate in after-hours maintenance activities, store openings, remodels, equipment refreshes, and emergency response activities.

•             Maintain company tools, testing equipment, vehicles, and inventory.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

•             High School Diploma or GED required.

•             Associate degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, or related field preferred.

•             Minimum 2-5 years experience installing low-voltage cabling systems.

•             Experience with structured cabling installations in commercial or retail environments.

•             Experience terminating and testing copper and fiber cabling.

•             Knowledge of structured cabling standards including ANSI/TIA standards.

•             Familiarity with network infrastructure equipment and basic networking concepts.

•             Experience installing conduit, cable trays, J-hooks, and cable management systems.

•             Ability to read blueprints, floor plans, and wiring diagrams.

•             Experience using cable certification and testing equipment.

•             Knowledge of NEC low-voltage requirements and construction site safety practices.

•             Basic understanding of wireless networking, IP cameras, and retail technology systems preferred.

CERTFICATES / LICENSES:

•             Valid Driver’s license Required

o   Must possess a clean driving abstract (with no major violations, suspensions, or at-fault accidents within the past 5 years)

•             BICSI Technician, Installer, or equivalent industry certification preferred.

•             OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification preferred.

•             Scissor & Boom Lift certification or equivalent preferred (MWEP Type 3 Group A & B).

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

•             Speak, Read and Write English

•             Retail stores, warehouses, offices, construction, and remodel locations.

•             Frequent travel between locations throughout the Hawaiian Islands may be required.

•             Noise levels range from moderate to high depending on work location.

•             Exposure to ladders, ceiling spaces, construction zones, and elevated work areas.
