What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Development position at Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club?
The Director of Development (“DD”) works with the CEO to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress toward goals. The DD supports the CEO in positioning the Board of Directors to cultivate and solicit major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, United Way, government agencies and others; and oversees marketing and event planning activities for the organization. The DD provides leadership and direction to staff and volunteers, as needed, in their role of supporting the resource development and marketing efforts. This is a full-time, exempt position with excellent benefits.
Leadership and Strategic Planning
- Provide leadership and direction to the CEO in the effective operation of all development activities required to fund Club operations and deliver programs within the community
- In collaboration with the CEO, develop and implement a strategic plan for single and multi-year resource development efforts:
- Research and analyzes agency, corporate, individual and foundation donor base and recommended solicitation strategies
- Prepare and present for approval proposals for corporate and foundation support of the Club, using current cultivation and solicitation materials
- Design and implement direct mail programs
- Provide support for various fundraising projects/initiatives assigned by CEO, such as endowments, major gifts and planned giving
- Ensure the evaluation of development activities and identify opportunities to improve results
- Supervises, directs, and leads full and part-time resource development staff
Resource Management
- Prepare all items for fundraising for or on behalf of CEO
- Manage administrative and operational systems to recognize contributions with acknowledgment letters and special recognition events
- Responsibly manages the donor database, including oversight of gift entry and donor acknowledgement activities, and prepares giving reports
- Ensure a productive working environment, providing staff support to Club management on fundraising issues
- Assist in creating and managing mailings, write follow up letters and enter necessary data regarding club donors
Marketing and Public Relations
- Increase visibility of Club development activities and maintain good public relations by developing and maintaining positive relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners to foster continued support of the Club’s mission
- Under the direction of the CEO, prepares and sets marketing strategies for the organization (press releases, social marketing posts, donor and community newsletters) and analyze and report upon results, and specifically utilizes digital marketing strategies to expand the Club’s reach and deepen donor engagement
- Prepare speeches and remarks for CEO for press events, releases, etc.
- Under the direction of the CEO, develop strategic alliances with community leaders and local officials. Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families, funders and community organizations
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure design and development and preparation of public relations documents for use in the promotion of fund raising, and education of the public, including press releases
- Ensure the development and distribution of marketing documents
- Collaborates with program staff to ensure that development efforts align with and support Club mission and programs
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required
- A minimum of three years’ work experience in nonprofit operations, grant writing, fundraising, sales/marketing or a closely-related field
- Considerable knowledge of fundraising techniques and sources of funding for non-profit agencies
- Experience in or comprehensive understanding of marketing techniques to identify and maximize contributions from various donor sources (i.e. individual, corporate, foundations); ability to motivate or involve top-level people in fund development efforts
- Experience accessing and managing donor databases; Salesforce experience highly desirable
- Knowledge of accounting principles relating to fundraising
- Very strong oral and written communication skills to represent Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club effectively with community groups, partners, the Board of Directors, and others
- Ability to plan, organize, direct, assign, review, and evaluate the work of others
- Valid Driver’s License
