Position Description
The Swipe Out Hunger student manager will help oversee and coordinate two meal donation drives, one each semester. The Swipe Out Hunger internship is an appointment under the Office for Civic Learning and in conjunction with the Willenborg Civic Learning Academy and Student Success and Engagement Division. The overall purpose of the Swipe Out Hunger student manager is to (1) help lead this program and (2) effectively market this student-facing initiative in order to (3) better serve students in need.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate one six-week drive, each semester—two per academic year
- Work with faculty sponsor, Prof. Christine Wilson, to verify donation drive dates;
- Coordinate and collaborate with other student organizations to help achieve a hunger free campus;
- Initiate one program opportunity, per academic year, outside of swipe drives to achieve a hunger free campus;
- Engage closely with the Swipe Out Hunger national network by regularly attending leadership tutorials and webinars, attending Swipe Out’s open student leader office hours, and reviewing the organization’s toolkits for advocacy and swipe drives with faculty mentor and Dominican student organization stakeholders ;
- Partner with other student-led organizations to advance Swipe Against Hunger objectives;
- Brainstorm new campaign strategies;
- Create two distinct social media posts, each drive cycle, to help brand the Swipe 4 Stars donation event;
- Contact, communicate, and coordinate social media posts across DU partner accounts;
- Analyze data to gauge the success of each donation drive campaign;
- Design flyer for various display boards across campus;
- Support Auxiliary Services with data collection;
- Analyze, report, and share data amongst key DU stakeholders: Student Success and Engagement, DU Feeds, and Dining Services;
- Present data findings and learned experience at 2025 Caritas Veritas Symposium and Spring 2026 Scholarship & Ideas EXPO
Skills/Abilities
- Sophomore, junior, or senior standing for the 2025/2026 academic year;
- Have an interest in food insecurity, social justice, and civic learning;
- Creativity, flexibility, and ability to work both independently and within a team;
- Attention to detail;
- Knowledgeable of CANVA and basic social media marketing tools;
