Position Summary: 

The Brennan School of Business at Dominican University is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty Member to teach ACCT 312 – Income Taxation of Individuals, a required course for all undergraduate accounting majors.  

The course meets Monday and Wednesday, 8:00am – 9:15am, in an online synchronous format on Dominican University’s River Forest campus. The successful candidate will bring both academic preparation and professional tax experience to the classroom and will engage students through applied learning, current tax issues, and practical examples from accounting practice. The adjunct faculty member may collaborate with senior departmental faculty to review and enhance course materials, case studies, and software specific to this course. 

Required Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree in taxation, Accounting, or a closely related field from an AACSB accredited institution 
  • Professional experience in individual income taxation and tax planning 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex tax concepts effectively to undergraduate students  

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • CPA license or other relevant professional credential 
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in public accounting, taxation, corporate tax, or related areas 
  • Experience preparing and reviewing individual, partnership, corporate, or fiduciary tax returns 
  • Experience with current federal tax law, tax research methodologies, and professional tax research resources 
  • Prior college-level teaching experience or experience training and mentoring professionals 
  • Familiarity with instructional technology, including Canvas or comparable learning management systems 
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Experience working with diverse student populations 

Responsibilities: 
  • Adjunct faculty are responsible for the following: 
  • Teaching ACCT 312 – Income Taxation of Individuals in accordance with departmental learning objectives and university policies 
  • Preparing course materials, assignments, examinations, and other instructional resources appropriate to the subject matter 
  • Maintaining regular communication with students and providing timely feedback on assignments and assessments 
  • Holding office hours and meeting with students as needed to support academic success 
  • Submitting grades, attendance records, and other required documentation in a timely manner 
  • Administering student evaluations and participating in assessment activities as requested by the department 
  • Adhering to university policies, procedures, and academic calendar deadlines 
  • Collaborating with accounting faculty on course assessment and continuous improvement initiatives  
 
Physical Demands  
  • Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer  
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times  
Salary and FLSA Status  

Adjunct faculty are compensated on a per-course basis.    
  • Salary: $3,000-$3,600 (depending on degree attained and experience, particularly university-level instructor-of-record experience).  
  • FLSA Status: Exempt, Part-Time (Adjunct Faculty)
