Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels) on-site camping available for the lead captain in Houghton Michigan. As an OUPV Captain, you will be responsible for safely navigating vessels, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and delivering exceptional service to passengers. Duties
- Safely operate vessels in accordance with federal maritime regulations and company policies, ensuring passenger safety at all times
- Plan and execute vessel routes efficiently, demonstrating excellent time management to adhere to schedules
- Conduct thorough pre-departure inspections of vessels, equipment, and safety gear to ensure readiness for each voyage
- Maintain detailed logs of vessel operations, navigation details, and safety checks for compliance and record-keeping purposes
- Communicate effectively with crew members, passengers, and port authorities to coordinate operations smoothly
- Analyze weather conditions, tides, and other environmental factors to make informed navigational decisions
- Ensure all crew members adhere to safety protocols and provide ongoing training as needed
Qualifications
- Valid OUPV (Six-Pack) license issued by the U.S. Coast Guard or relevant maritime authority
- Strong knowledge of federal maritime regulations, including safety standards and navigation rules
- Experience in aviation or maritime environments demonstrating excellent analysis skills and situational awareness
- Proven ability to manage time effectively under dynamic conditions while maintaining high safety standards
- Exceptional communication skills for clear coordination with team members and external agencies
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with a focus on safety, customer service, and operational efficiency
- Ability to perform under pressure with strong problem-solving capabilities
