The Part-Time Foundation Grant Specialist is responsible for securing grants from foundations, government agencies, and other funding sources to support the organization’s programs and services for survivors of domestic violence. This position is crucial to ensuring the sustainability of our mission and plays a key role in advancing the organization’s impact in the community. The Grant Specialist will research potential funding opportunities, write and submit compelling grant proposals, and cultivate relationships with current and potential funders. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates with various teams within the organization.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Primary Grant-Related Responsibilities

  • Research funding opportunities. Identify and research potential grant opportunities that align with the organization’s mission and goals. Analyze various sources, including foundation databases and government listings, to uncover new funding avenues.
  • Proposal Writing: Write clear and compelling grant proposals, outlining the organization’s objectives, detailed project plans, and how the funding will create a positive impact for survivors of domestic violence.
  • Budget Development: Assist in preparing accurate and detailed budgets that allocate grant funds effectively, ensuring alignment with the proposal’s goals and the organization’s financial strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Executive Director and finance team to gather necessary data, ensuring that all proposals accurately reflect the organization’s mission and operational needs.
  • Networking and Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with foundation representatives, government agencies, and other potential funders. Cultivate both existing and new funding sources, including federal, state, local, corporate, and individual donors.
  • Assess Market Needs & Trends: Evaluate the funding landscape in Luzerne and Carbon Counties to ensure the organization remains aligned with local needs and funding trends.
  • Other tasks as directed by the Executive Director.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS AND JOB SKILLS

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Business, Communications, Marketing, Social Work, Nonprofit Administration, or related field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in grant writing.
  • Demonstrated success of securing grant funding.
  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and public speaking.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity and understanding the current landscape of grant funding and trends is beneficial.
  • Successful experience in contracts management in a non-profit setting.
  • Established and relevant professional contacts and networks a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • An understanding of and commitment to client self-determination.
  • An understanding of feminist philosophy and issues; of problems faced by victims of domestic violence; and of

problems faced by disadvantaged and homeless women.

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance; PA Criminal Background Check, FBI Criminal Background Check.
  • Driver’s license, access to a motor vehicle, adequate insurance.
  • Willingness to work toward the goals of the agency according to DVSC philosophy and policy; and to accept further education/training to develop skills appropriate to the position.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Required to successfully complete essential functions of the job.

  • Proficiency with MS Office required – MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines
  • Ability to learn and use other industry specific software, including donor databases

PHYSICAL DEMANDS typically required to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 25 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to be on your feet and to sit at a desk/computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb stairs and ramps, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, squat, lift, grasp, speak, hear, and see objects
  • Ability to respond quickly to sounds; ability to see and respond to dangerous/crisis situations

WORKING CONDITIONS under which the essential functions of this position are typically performed.

  • Frequent exposure to general office setting
  • Occasional exposure to emergency and transitional housing shelters
  • Occasional travel to government agencies, funders, and agency affiliated and partner sites
  • Occasional travel within Luzerne and Carbon counties maintain foundation relations, etc.
