What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter/Rural Advocate position at Domestic Violence Network?

Job Summary
The Shelter Advocate provides comprehensive advocacy and support to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking in both the shelter and rural communities served by The Domestic Violence Network.

Hours
This position is a full-time (40 hours/week) hourly basis. Hours could include day, weekend and evening shifts. A rotating on-call schedule will be included.

Supervision
This position reports directly to the Executive Director or the Board of Directors if there is no Executive Director, but frequent travel and work within Lake and Miner Counties will be required, with reimbursement for mileage if company care is unavailable.

Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following.

o Always maintaining confidentiality.

o Conduct intake and orientation for new clients entering the shelter.

o Collaborate with clients on individualized service and safety plans.

o Assist with resource navigation including housing, employment, healthcare, legal, and other supportive services.

o Help maintain a safe, clean, and respectful environment within the shelter.

o Documentation services, data entry duties

o Coverage of 24-hour crisis line.

o Maintaining and providing outreach services outside the shelter environment.

o Providing crisis intervention services off-site as needed (hospital or police station)

o Attending staff meetings/trainings. Some maybe overnight.

o Participating in fundraising activities and community events.

o Working closely with other staff to ensure delivery of services.

o Any other duties as instructed by the Executive Director

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following;

o At least 2 years of social service education at a recognized college or university.

o At least 2 years of experience in Human Services Field

o Experience in working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault

o Excellent written and oral communication skills

o Experience working with people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures

o Ability to work independently and as a team

o The ability to manage flexibility in scheduling

o The ability to handle multiple task

o Must pass a background check and uphold strict client confidentiality.

Job Type: Full-time

Base Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
