Job Title: Elementary Physical Education (PE) Teacher
Job Summary: The Elementary PE Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive physical education program that promotes students’ physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and overall well-being. This role fosters a positive and inclusive environment where all students are encouraged to participate in physical activity and develop healthy lifestyle habits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate physical education lessons aligned with school or district standards
- Teach fundamental motor skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical fitness concepts
- Assess student progress and provide feedback on physical development and participation
- Adapt activities to accommodate students of varying abilities and needs
- Maintain a safe and structured environment during all physical activities
- Organize and supervise games, activities, and special events (e.g., field day)
- Promote lifelong fitness and healthy habits
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support student development
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel
- Maintain equipment and ensure proper use and storage
Qualifications:
- Preferable - Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field
- Valid state teaching certification/licensure in Physical Education or the ability to acquire one (Must provide proof of program)
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate physical activities
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate and engage young students
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching at the elementary level
- Familiarity with adaptive physical education practices
- Coaching or extracurricular activity experience
Work Environment:
- Indoor gymnasiums and outdoor play areas
- Active, physically demanding role requiring movement and demonstration of exercises
- Interaction with large groups of children throughout the day
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate physical activities for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry sports equipment
- Ability to supervise and ensure student safety during active play
