The imaging incubation team on our Advanced Technology Group is looking for a Image Capture/Camera R&D Specialist to join our highly collaborative and dynamic research team.
This key role will help support the Technology Incubation team by designing, modeling, and supporting multiple optics projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Observe sets and locations for potential problems and determine capture and lighting requirements.
- Set up and perform live capture shots to produce data for Volumetric processing
- Build, test, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated multi-axis camera array structures.
- Perform extrinsic and intrinsic calibration routines
- Compose and capture shots applying technical aspects of light, lenses, filters, and camera settings
- Assemble sets and arrange cameras and lighting equipment to be used for light field capture.
- Work closely with software, imaging, and hardware engineers to quickly iterate on scene capture layouts.
- Design and build on the go mechanical and electronic hardware for enhancing capture techniques
- Collaborate and propose operating procedures and specifications to guide capture processes.
- Document learnings for creating a guide of good practices for volumetric capture
Other Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and rapid prototype mechanical structures, electronics, plates, and fixtures required to create stable camera structures and new portable structures
- Provide feedback to mechanical engineering relevant to camera rig stability and form factor to rapidly iterate on design changes.
- Lead technical discussions on mechanical design requirements and techniques.
- Develop designs in CAD and produce solid models for prototyping and fabrication.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years experience or Technical Degree with 10 years experience working in the areas of Camera Systems and Optics
- Knowledge of machine shop techniques and practices
- Knowledge of 3D rapid prototyping techniques
- Working knowledge of CAD software (Solidworks, Fusion 360, etc.)
- Knowledge aspects of camera capture setups (lenses, ISP controls, calibration charts, etc.).
- Knowledge of circuit layouts and prototyping. Ability to solder components and circuit boards.
- Knowledge of optical prototyping and fabrication techniques using diamond turning machine)
