Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies while maintaining aseptic techniques.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray), ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical imaging as needed to support comprehensive patient evaluations.
- Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist—scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Maintain infection control standards through proper sterilization procedures and adherence to OSHA guidelines.
- Utilize advanced dental technology including 3D scanners and digital imaging tools to enhance diagnostic capabilities.
- Educate patients on oral health practices, treatment plans, and post-procedure care using clear dental terminology.
- Collaborate with team members in four-handed dentistry to optimize workflow and patient comfort during procedures.
- Ensure accurate medical documentation and coding for insurance claims and patient records.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar role within a busy dental clinic environment.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to medical records confidentiality and security.
- Hands-on experience with X-ray techniques, medical imaging, and 3D scanning technology.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology across general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry disciplines.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining aseptic technique and infection control standards.
- Experience supporting pediatric patients is a plus—knowledge of pediatrics is highly valued.
